Mystery Rosy Slime on Isolated Tasmanian Coast Raises Concerns of Potential Algal Bloom
Agencies in the island state are attempting to pinpoint a pink slime that has appeared on a isolated coast, with a number of researchers concerned it could be an algal bloom.

Coleman said sea sparkle did not produce harmful substances comparable to the species involved in the previous devastating outbreak, but it does consume microscopic animals and "numerous fish eggs", meaning fish and crustacean species were in greatest danger.
"It's common to observe a proliferation of the organism after a outbreak of another organism, or for example a fish reproduction," she said.
Calls for Response and Community Health
Lilly Henley, who gathered specimens of the magenta ooze in Tasmania, said it appeared the suspected bloom had "grown significantly" and indicated the fish farming business was the primary suspect, citing similar cases in other places.
"Thus we needs to issue a strong warning here, the officials and the environmental agency need to react to this. We need to examine the examples we've collected and we need to notify the people here," she stated.
Henley said she had concerns for people's well-being after feeling a numbness along her arms and face while being splashed with affected seawater.
